Prairie Ridge Golf Course and Oak Room Restaurant
”A Diamond in the Rough”
Morrison Country Club was originally established in 1918 as a nine hole private course. It was sold in the mid 1990’s. The new owners kept the name but planned to make it an 18 hole public course designed by Dave Hilty. The completion of the new nine holes was delayed and the course was sold again and named Sunset Woods. Still unfinished, the course finally closed and was rumored abandoned for good.
Lowell Beggs owned Silver Ridge Golf Course in Oregon, IL. He sold that course to then retire but after seeing this abandoned course in Morrison he felt he had found a ”diamond in the rough”. Lowell and partner Javier Carreno purchased the course in May of 2007. The clubhouse was remodeled and the greens and fairways were rebuilt. The course and restaurant were brought back to life. In 2008 the business officially opened as Prairie Ridge Golf Course and The Oak Room Restaurant.
Lowell and Javier are always looking for new ways to upgrade the grounds and the clubhouse. Javier, also a certified golf course superintendent, expertly maintains the course. With its many elevation changes the course offers beautiful vistas of the countryside within the city of Morrison. The course has a variety of challenging and enjoyable holes with mature trees, thick rough and a few narrow fairways. The greens are undulating and well bunkered. Water hazards include three ponds and a creek that are in play on seven holes. Yet, overall, the course is very playable for all ages and skill levels. A driving range, pratice bunker and putting green are available.
The Oak Room Restaurant offers fine dining including great hand cut steaks, pasta, chicken and seafood. On Wednesday nights they also have the very popular authentic Mexican cuisine on the menu. The Oak Room will satisfy any appetite. We have Taco Wednesday in the Oak Room with $1.50 Tacos & $2.50 Margaritas. We have a fully stocked bar. We specialize in golf outings, weddings and banquets.
Head Golf Professional Heath Warner has been on staff since 2009, and offers golf lessons, junior golf camp, leagues and a stocked pro shop.
